Steps - Frances

Basic, step-by-step (almost layer-by-layer) process of drawing In Memoriam : [link]

Is to be used by those curious of how I do my technique. Isn't a really accurate or helpful tutorial for beginners to Photoshop or anything.

1. Basic outlining of the background of the picture. Stove, fridge, etc. The shape of the person was added later as I drew in the lineart on another layer. (Note: All added layers are named appropriately to find and also in Multiply Mode)

2. Outlining of Frances and details. Was originally done with a thicker brush and it was really messy. But, as the piece continued, I'd go back to this layer and touch it up, using an eraser to thin down the lines and delete parts I didn't want any more. Also, went over it with a light eraser to get lighter colors of grey so it wouldn't stand out as much against everything else.

3. Shading of background and around Frances' figure for depth.

4. Shading of clothing and detail work of the plaid. Did details on hands and face, which took about a little more than an hour. Faces are frustrating at times, but just keep working at it.

5. In between frames I drew glasses on a separate layer. One final overall shading and voila!
